There's a pair of weather systems across the Western US and, for Colorado, we will see rain and snow to start the week. The highest impact for Denver and Colorado Springs areas will come on Tuesday morning.

First, let's check the location and timeline of the rain and snow.

Monday at the lunch hour, rain(green) and snow(blue) will be across parts of the western half of Colorado.

By 5 pm Monday, rain and snow continue to spread across the west, but Eastern Colorado remains mostly shower-free:

From Monday 5 pm to 1 am Tuesday, rain and snow are possible in the metro areas:

And by Tuesday's morning commute, areas heavy of snow will be possible between Denver and Colorado Springs stretching out toward the eastern plains.

The result will be the possibility of several inches of snow, and wet/slick roads for Tuesday morning, with the worst of it perhaps setting up for the areas between Denver and Colorado Springs and points east.

Here are various projections of snowfall totals between four models which are all relatively close to the same idea of 2 to 5 inches between Denver and Colorado Springs with some isolated totals of more than that for someone between Castle Rock/Monument to Black Forest/Elbert/Elizabeth/Kiowa. For Denver, most data continues to show Denver in the Trace to 3" range as we outlined yesterday.

Travelers/commuters, beware of Tuesday morning road and weather conditions to potentially slow you down.

Let's turn to temperatures for a moment. Highs Monday will reach the 50s to 60s ahead of the moisture, then we'll cool into the 40s Tuesday as the system clears.

There will be moments of strong wind, too.

Here are hourly details for Denver:

And, for Colorado Springs:

We will have another update to the forecast Monday, with more detail around expected snowfall totals as well. Be well!
