Since Tuesday's storm, the weather has turned much quieter across the region to end November. Yes, we had a quick-hitting system fly through Thanksgiving evening, but for most of us that equated to a dusting at best, with only a few reports of at 1/2" here and there across the Front Range and adjacent plains.

Otherwise, it's been mostly sunny. Remarkably sunny even.

Take a look at this satellite imagery taken this last Wednesday morning. With few exceptions, the white seen across the state is snow cover, with only a few clouds in some mountain valleys to our west. With the bit of melting that occurred after the snow stopped on Tuesday, this image makes it quite clear who ended up with the heaviest banded snowfall Tuesday morning and who missed out. North of Boulder and along I-76 extending northeast there wasn't all that much accumulation, and it was a rather abrupt line at that. It's also clear that northern El Paso and parts of Elbert county missed in a big way with this storm, as the heaviest snow ended up about 15 to 20 miles north of where we had placed the highest confidence in the snow band ending up.

The clear skies have meant a nice, warm late November sun. Still, the low angle of that sun means slow melting this time of year, and for many of us where the heaviest snow fell earlier this week the snow has held on quite well despite a few warms days.

The week ahead
After a warm Saturday, the air today is chillier across the region behind the passage of a cold front. Windy conditions at times are expected through the afternoon across the area, with overnight lows tonight dipping into the single digits and teens across Northeast Colorado tonight, before we warm nicely for your Monday.

Highs Monday are expected to be the warmest of the week, with highs in the mid 50s for Denver. This will be true regionally as well, as you can see below. A mild Monday, but chillier weather returning by Tuesday. Wednesday looks like the coldest day of the week for most of us – with some snow possible Tuesday into Wednesday as well.

The initial push of cold air is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon, and with it we may see snow showers develop, especially along the Front Range foothills and Palmer Divide. Cold air will continue to filter into the state overnight, which will equate to temperatures staying below freezing on Wednesday for most of us – even as what snow chances we do end up seeing come to an end.

The snowfall potential does not look all that great at this time, but let's keep an eye on things just in case. As it stands, areas to our east (central Kansas or so) may see a better chance at a more significant storm by mid to late week, as the trough that delivers our cold air is forecast to strengthen and cutoff from the main flow as it moves through. Depending on the exact track of this system, Colorado's far eastern plains could end up with some appreciable snow on Wednesday as well, but as of today the greatest heavy snow threat looks to end up east of the state line.

As for our gamblers, they are a bit of a snoozer as of this afternoon. A Trace to 2 or 3" from Boulder through Denver and Castle Rock looks most probable at this time, and that's assuming we can keep some light snow showers going through Wednesday – which might be a stretch.

The European ensemble generally agrees. If you live on Denver's west side, or across the Western Palmer Divide, odds at 1" or more by Thursday morning are pretty high according to this model. For Denver proper and those along/east of I-25 those probabilities drop off considerably. You'll also note the higher probabilities begin to re-emerge as you head into Kansas, where again we may see a more significant snowfall later this week.

Beyond Wednesday temperatures being to moderate a bit.

Enjoy the mild start to the week on Monday, and get ready for sharply colder temperatures Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. We'll keep an eye on the chance of snow with with this system, and pass along updates as needed.
