As we watch the weather pattern over the next two weeks, perhaps the most
notable system for the Central US will be that which develops over Texas by New
Year's Eve.

The system shown here (enclosed contours) is the center of a system that will
develop rapidly from Mexico to Texas and then scoot toward the Great Lakes.

Wednesday evening:

Thursday evening:

Friday evening:

This is one of a few systems that will impact the country, but may come away as
the strongest of those to develop within the next two weeks.

Let's break down the potential precipitation totals in 3-day chunks.

This is Monday (12/28) to Thursday (12/31) and shows the heavy precipitation
from eastern Texas into Oklahoma and toward the Ohio Valley.

From Thursday (12/31) to Sunday (1/3):

From Sunday (1/3)  to Wednesday (1/6)

From Wednesday (1/6) to Saturday (1/9)

And, finally from Saturday (1/9) to Tuesday (1/12)

Yes, the next two weeks will be active with a few systems to pass through, but
the wettest does appear to come from that of New Year's Eve.

There will be some wintry precipitation to fall during the next two weeks also.
The Mountainous Western US and the Corn Belt to Great Lakes may see the heaviest
snowfall.

As far as extreme cold, not really seeing much of that for the next two weeks.
Texas and New Mexico do cool to more than 10 degrees colder than average with
the New Year's System.
