Throughout this week, wind will be part of a system to develop over the High
Plains. In some locations, wind will easily top 60 mph.

Let's set the stage with the system that is to develop over the northern plains
states and head toward the Great Lakes.

This development will take place the next several days. The image above
represents Friday morning with the center of the system projected to be over the
borders of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

On the western edge of this developing low will be lots of wind.

Let's look at the total wind gust swath through Saturday morning.

The Pacific Northwest through Rockies and onto the High Plains are to expect
potentially damaging wind.

Let's take a closer look, step-by-step. These images start Wednesday morning and
run through Saturday morning.

Particularly impactful will be the wind early Thursday for South Dakota.

Parts of northern Colorado's mountains and eastern plains will also experience
strong wind, especially Thursday and Friday. The Front Range mountains as well
as the northeast plains stand best chance at seeing some of this damaging wind,
with some of those gusty winds spilling over the urban corridor as well by late
week. 

As of Monday evening, there are already a number of wind alerts in place by the
NWS.
