We've been on top of the big changes ahead for this weekend. Here's a little update on what we're working with!
The latest: NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the Front Range and parts of the Plains:
Regarding what we've been tracking for you this week - generally speaking, not a whole lot has changed.
Today is likely our nicest afternoon for awhile... We'll see a bit of a dip by tomorrow... generally 40s. By Saturday we attempt to get to 20 by sunrise before a precipitous drop in temperatures throughout Saturday. In fact, most folks fall into the 10s and even single digits as we get towards dinnertime Saturday. Check out the temperature and precip trends for Denver and Colorado Springs below ⬇️
DENVER AREA FORECAST INTO WEEKEND
COLORADO SPRINGS AREA FORECAST INTO WEEKEND
And here's a look at expected highs and lows – with lows getting near and below zero, wind chills up to 15 to 20 degrees BELOW zero will be possible Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings!
We're still looking at solid snow chances for the Front Range too. Snow looks to start late afternoon on Friday for Denver and continue over night into Saturday morning. With temperatures in the 10s and 20s, it will have no problem accumulating on the roadways. Expect travel to get nasty pretty quick Friday night.
We'll see a break in the moisture starting Saturday afternoon and evening for most. We should keep it dry into Sunday morning before another wave of snowfall develops Sunday afternoon and evening and continues into Monday morning.
All-in-all we're not looking at a blockbuster storm system, but it could definitely being a decent amount of impact to the urban corridor snow-wise.
There are a few question marks on how where we end up in terms of snowfall ratios... Right now we're thinking 15:1 to 20:1 given the cold temperatures expected. This means that for every inch of liquid, you'd get 15 to 20 inches of snow (and no, we aren't expecting an inch of precipitation!).
By this measure, snowfall totals between the two waves would put the foothills in the bullseye for 6+" of snowfall. For the Denver area 3-8" looks like a good starting point.
In Colorado Springs, 2-6" of snow probably covers most cases... as per usual higher totals west and north of COS expected.
To put it all together:
The COLD part
A big swing of cold arrives on Saturday, it gets even colder Sunday and Monday. We'll moderate a bit by the middle of next week.
High temps will range between 0 to 15 degrees on Sunday/Monday.
Low temps Sunday and Monday mornings range between -10 to 0 degrees.
Tuesday morning is likely the coldest, where temps could drop to -20 degrees for some.
The SNOW part
Snow impacts begin as early as Friday evening for the front range, extending into the mountains. Snow continues up until lunchtime or so Saturday. Another round of snow is expected Sunday evening into Monday morning. Plan on impacts to your Monday morning commute!
