More Precipitation on the Way for Northern California, a Bit for Southern Too

The recent active weather pattern in parts of the Western United States has produced some really nice moisture for areas of California and the Pacific Northwest. The map below shows total liquid moisture during the past two weeks – some impressive totals across the northwest!

While Northern California has benefited from this pattern, much of southern California has received basically nothing. This is largely representative of the pattern we expect to continue, and the pattern we talked about last week in our initial long range outlook for California: https://www.weather5280.com/insider/california-update-october-2016-2/

The next 7 days will be no exception, as the main storm track will continue to impact the northern half of California and Pacific Northwest. The GFS Model forecast total liquid moisture is shown below:

This will also include some good early-season higher elevation snow for the Sierra Nevada Mountains:

With several storm systems continuing to impact the state every few days over the next 10 days:

There may be a bit more moisture for PARTS of Southern California, the best moisture will largely stay north. No surprises there...
