Texas Update December 31st, 2016: Wintry Pattern for Some of Texas

While the upcoming week of weather doesn't look as nasty as it once did for Texas, it is still going to get chilly. Some areas will also pick up some rain, and some snow. Before we get to that, here is a look at the temperature ANOMALY (departure from average) trend for the week:

Monday Evening

Tuesday Evening

Wednesday Evening

Thursday Evening

Friday Evening

As you can see, it will get colder during midweek and likely stay cold for a while. It won't be brutally cold, but certainly a change to a more wintry feel.

Precipitation-wise, most of Texas will not get a lot out of this change. In fact, the bulk of precipitation that occurs will fall over far East Texas, with a late weekend / early week disturbance. After that, only light rain and snow is expected to fall...likely favoring areas farther to the west and north. The maps below show the projected total liquid moisture and total expected snowfall for the next 10 days:

Jury still out on how much snow actually falls in the Panhandle, as most of the snow may just end up farther west. However, some light snow is certainly not out of the question with the upcoming colder airmass.
