Snowfall Totals
Running list of snowfall totals as monster March snowstorm wallops Front Range of Colorado
The much anticipated storm arrived overnight and has already buried parts of the Front Range under feet of snow with another 12 to 24 hours to go! While parts of the metro area fell victim to mild temperatures and prolonged rain/mixing last night, the majority of folks have already hit the low-end of their forecast range, and most of

Forecast update: Heavy snow, plentiful moisture looks increasingly likely for Denver, Front Range of Colorado
We continue to track the potential for a wet, heavy snowfall across the region for the latter half of the week. Of course, there remains uncertainty around the details, and like every system, this one has some unique pros and cons going for it. Still, guidance is supportive of plentiful moisture across the region and likely some good accumulating snow for some of us. On several measures, this setu

Colorado weather: Light mix with slick spots Tuesday morning, Wednesday storm approaching
After mild days Sunday and Monday, we're heading into a cloudier and colder pattern through midweek. It's all kicking off with some moisture streaming into the region Monday night and Tuesday morning. Short range models are indicating a some drizzle and snow showers along the northern foothills and front range through Tuesday morning and into the early afternoon. The signal for moisture is highest for Larimer and Weld counties, but we'll likely see some moisture drawn into the Denver Metro ar

Colorado Weather: In the warm before the storm, a peek into the MJO
After a chilly, windy and snowy weekend across the state of Colorado, the work week has landed us in a pretty good spot. Monday featured a bit of wind and leftover snow in the mountains, Tuesday is looking great with widespread 50s and 60s along the Front Range, and Wednesday should be one of the warmest days of the week with most getting into the 60s along and east of I-25. Clearly we're going to be working with stuff well above normal the next few days. The good news is that we won't have muc

Colorado Weather: First of two Thanksgiving systems hits through Monday
There are two main disturbances that will impact the weather across Colorado, including travel impacts in Denver, through Thanksgiving Week with the first hitting now through Monday. The first system has some alerts in place, so let's begin there. Isolated impacts expected in the mountains, most of which focus on the San Juans. Let's watch as the forecast radar shows us where and when to expect some precipitation. Then, just an hourly timeline for Denver's precipitation chances shows chances

Denver Weather: Taste of fall weather as temperatures drop more than 20 degrees this week
There's a temperature drop on the way to much of Colorado this week, and for Denver we will go from the 80s Monday to the 60s Tuesday through the end of the week. Parts of the area could have their first frost of the season. What's driving this cool off? A strong trough over the West will head toward Wyoming and be a glancing blow to Colorado, with cooler temperatures and some showers. This animation shows the progression of that trough (blue shades). Although there will be isolated to scatter

Colorado Weather: Enhanced risk of damaging hail and wind
Enhanced risk of severe weather today for Colorado's Eastern Plains as Denver and the metro areas can see a significant storm, too. As I was walking the pup during lunch, the towers in the distance were rapidly growing. The top of a Cheyenne, Wyoming storm was what caught my attention first, but we had towers developing around our mountains, too. As these storms develop through the afternoon, they move east into an environment that has some ingredients to put together that can lead to large ha

Denver Weather: Tornado risk today covers city and Front Range
There's a risk of damaging thunderstorms today, July 4th, including the highest risk of tornadoes in the country will be along the Front Range and Plains, including Denver, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne. The threat for storms continues throughout the day in several 'waves' of storms that may try to move through. The above image is the environment where tornadoes are most likely to form, but other areas carry a lower threat, not a zero threat. Look at the overall threat of damaging thunderstorms,

Denver weather: Wind and potentially the first 90° day
Denver has yet to hit the 90°s this year, but will give it a run again today. If the city should hit 90°, it'll be the latest first such day since 1982. Let's give the hourly planner a look-see, yep it touches 90... Although the storm chance is lower today, there's a higher likelihood for storms over the northeastern plains, and for the city the chances do increase in the next few days. Just for today, here is the probability of thunderstorms across the state. Although seemingly a quiet weat

Fires break out Thursday with high fire danger to continue
Fire danger remains critically high today and Saturday for parts of Colorado in similar conditions that allowed dangerous fires to spread Thursday. Colorado weather: Cold sets some historic numbers, another cold night on the way
The cold front hit with a vengeance and no way did we overlook its arrival, wind and a temperature drop rarely recorded before.
