Today's snow a boom or bust?
We were bullish in yesterday's snowfall forecast . How that idea holds up remains to be seen, but it's likely that some areas will bust, with the Denver metro area being at the greatest risk for that today, and higher confidence in snow the farther north you go. Confidence This is a generally a low confidence forecast. Not only do we have considerable disagreement in the modeling to how much moisture we'll have to work
Rainfall Forecast
Cooler temperatures and a better chance of rain across much of Colorado as we end the week
The chance for rainfall increases into Friday and lingers into the weekend, with widespread thunderstorms expected along the Front Range and Northeast Colorado. So far, June has been quite a dry month, with only isolated pockets of above average precipitation through the 22nd across Colorado: The moisture received this week, mostly in that cooldown Sunday and Monday, was about the only notable widespread rainfall since May. Precipitation totals this week, through Wednesday: Another benefit

The State of the Atmosphere: Sunday, June 20th, 2021
Happy Father's Day! It'll be cooling off today and tomorrow with some scattered rain chances, too. For today, Colorado will be impacted by the first to two cold fronts. The coolest change will be across northern Colorado, and that's where - potentially - we will see the strongest thunderstorms too. More on that in a moment. The second cold front will be pushing into northeastern Colorado Monday. Let's look at temperatures across Colorado for Sunday and Monday. For Denver, we have gone from

Feeling the burn? Cooler weather set for Friday in Denver and on the Front Range
Temperatures will cool down Friday to offer a brief relief from the near-record setting temperatures felt the past few days. For Denver, temperatures Saturday through Tuesday were in the 90s and neared record territory, Wednesday stopped at 89 degrees, but then Thursday was the hottest of the year thus far with 95 degrees. A southeasterly wind and some clouds likely prevented Denver from hitting the triple digits and setting a record. However, record temperatures are possible next week followi

Latest snowfall forecast and discussion for Denver, Northeast Colorado
We're now day of, and models continue to differ on how the next 24 hours or so will pan out across Northeast Colorado. Details around snow totals aside, expect rain and snow showers to increase through the afternoon across northeast Colorado, with locally heavy rain and snow possible through the evening. The HRRR model, which has done quite well with snow events in recent weeks, has trended snowier this morning after keeping the heaviest snow well north of the Denver area in overnight runs. It

A wintry April week, with plenty of uncertainty remaining around snowfall potential for Denver, surrounding areas
We continue to work to piece together how the remainder of the week will pan out, with models continuing to diverge on when and just how much snow we might see at lower elevations. Through Wednesday there's reasonable agreement that indicates the foothills and Front Range mountains could see several inches of snow but in all likelihood we won't see too much accumulate along the I-25 urban corridor. We will chat more on snow in a moment. First, temperatures are chilly across the region today.

Latest snowfall forecast, probabilities, and discussion as winter storm approaches Colorado
Well, we've made it to Friday. The incoming winter storm that has captured our attention all week has come ashore across the Southwest United States, and will slowly move up through the Four Corners and across Southern Colorado this weekend. Thursday AM update: Storm track wobbles continue, latest probabilities for significant snowfall across northern Colorado
We continue to track a potentially significant snowfall event on the way for north-central and northeast Colorado this weekend. While widespread totals in excess of one foot of snow are possible, if even likely this weekend, there remain some caveats to that depending on exact storm track, which this morning remains in question. As for timing, look for rain and show showers to continue off and on through Friday evening. These aren't expected to amount to much, but enough to feel unsettled at t
