This week we'll see much needed moisture fall across many states that have dealt
with drought conditions all summer long. Some will fall in the form of rain, and
for some in the form of snow. The areas outlined in the dashed box below will
see the greatest moisture potential early this week: 

This roughly corresponds to the same area below. These are probabilities for
0.5" of liquid (as rain or snow) in the coming week. Many areas will see upwards
of a 80% chance for this to occur if current modeling holds: 

Probabilities for 1.0" of liquid or more drops off in most areas, but some will
likely see more than an inch of rain this week. That includes Southwest
Colorado, Southeast Wyoming, a large swath of Western Texas/Oklahoma, and much
of Central Kansas: 

This will equate to a large area of positive precipitation anomalies over the
next week. The areas shaded in green and blue are forecast to receive above
average precipitation over the next seven days: 

The rainfall forecast for Texas will equate to a large area under a slight risk
for flash flooding over the next two days: 

And for those across Colorado, Wyoming, and Western Nebraska much of that
moisture will fall in the form of snow or a rain snow mix Tuesday and Wednesday.
The probabilities for 3" of snow or more are show below – impressive odds for so
early in the season.
