The extended weekend is almost here, and as the unofficial start to summer it will be quite warm with daily thunderstorm chances but also areas of flooding will remain in the high country from snowmelt.

Let's frame this out with an hourly planner into Monday. Denver's temperatures remain warm; statewide high temperatures will be from normal to five degrees warmer than average throughout the weekend.

To me this boils down to some nice hiking/adventuring days so long as we keep an eye on the sky for those midday and afternoon storms. The most likely areas for storms will be on the eastern mountain ranges to the metro areas and plains.

Speaking of which, storms that is, they'll be scattered throughout the weekend. A few may become severe (as we've seen the past few days) with large hail and/or damaging wind gusts to go with the heavy rain. That rainfall can create some isolated flash flooding.

The flooding risks in the mountains continue along swollen waterways, so you may consider check your exact spot for what the river conditions are like. Here's a map showing some areas of concern for flooding:

Today could be the most active for storms of the next four days, so here's an hourly breakdown for that risk. Timing, as we've seen the past two days, may need adjusting by an hour or two from what shown here.

Keep us posted on any severe weather reports and rainfall totals! We'd greatly appreciate it. If you are looking for a new weather station/rain sensor, there's a sale this weekend via Tempest° (click this link and enter "weather5280" as the discount code at checkout).

Have a great weekend; Memorial Day can be tough for a lot of folks. I'll be remembering my AFROTC buddy Nathan, killed along with the entire crew on his MC-130H in 2002.
