The latest drought monitor for Colorado was completely blank, not even abnormally dry areas across the map. This is only one of four states that can brag about being drought free.
Now, this obviously isn't the first time that Colorado has been drought free but it does not happen often. In the past 23 years, it has only happened one other time - during the El Niño of 2019.
You'll probably ask, "How long will it last?" Consider the southwestern part of the state is drying out, this situation won't last long.
In the past 14 days, we haven't had the precipitation for the west that we have in the east.
The outlook today for thunderstorms is low for most of us, but is slightly higher for the southwest.
Considering the growing deficits for the west and southwest, the next few days of needed rainfall will be telling. Perhaps the next drought monitor released later this week will start to show an increase in abnormally dry conditions.
One thing to offset this is the streamflow from our snowpack are still relatively healthy in those areas.
Considering the significant droughts of the past two decades, I'll take it for however long it lasts. If you've read our member posts, you know we are concerned about the monsoon this year; certainly a negative impact on the state trying to remain drought free.
How is the vegetation where you are? Mine is the thickest and tallest grassland that I've seen in 43+ years of being here.
