2025 seems to be zipping on by as the unofficial start to the Summer season is already here. Memorial Day Weekend is unfortunately looking pretty wet at times across Colorado. Here's the latest details:

A very weak, and sort of nebulous weather pattern looks to set up shop this weekend. At this point, our most affected days look like Sunday and Monday.

As you can see on the maps above, the 500mb charts aren't even really showing a significant storm system, but just enough (what I like to call) "junk" in the atmosphere to spin up some showers and thunderstorms. Along with that, we'll see some cooler than average temperatures this weekend too.

Below is a look at potential shower and storm coverage for Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoon/evenings.

SATURDAY PM
SUNDAY PM
MONDAY PM

As you can see, we're working with our most widespread coverage on Sunday and Monday – those days could potentially washout outdoor plans, and along with that we could see much cooler temperatures.

Let's be thinking highs in the 60s... more clouds than sun... off and on rainy and sorta gloomy. I think that will be especially true Monday, Memorial Day, following the passage of a cool front. Here's a look at potential temperatures below for Denver the next week and a half.

This would be beneficial moisture though... as we know this spring season has not been the kindest in terms of water around here – outside of the early May soaker, we've been relatively shut out. The GFS and European seem to be in fairly good agreement on northeast Colorado pushing out some good water. Even southern Colorado has a shot at 1/2 to 1" of rainfall over the next 5 days. Much drier across the western half of the state.

Above is a look at the ensemble data from the European – not too shabby for late May and no real appreciable storm reflection in the upper levels.

Will this be a total washout this weekend? Probably not. BUT, these storms, likely driven by the heating of the day would likely become more numerous each afternoon. Outdoor plans might be best kept in the mornings... while keeping a sharp eye on weather information throughout the day, and a back up plan if you're plans do take you outside in the afternoon/evenings just in case.

For Saturday and Sunday, you can see how the chances for rain peak:

Some of these storms could be on the severe side, especially if we can get some decent sunshine pre-thunderstorm activity. Gusty winds, hail, lightning and very heavy rainfall would be the biggest threats. Most of the widespread severe weather threat (outside of the severe storms across the far Eastern Plains of Colorado this evening) should stay east of the state over the weekend, but never rule out a storm turning severe this time of year. Stay weather aware!

Overall, not the perfect Memorial Day Weekend... but hey, at least it's not snow? ... 🫣

Anyways, enjoy the weekend folks, enjoy whoever you're spending time with, and we'll let you know if there are any more updates.
