Hey all – that first big heat wave of the season is always a little rough, huh? Friday brought record-tying heat, and strong, gusty winds both then and again on Sunday didn’t exactly make for the most pleasant outdoor weather.
Still, we can count those as a few of the maybe 30 to 40 legit pool days we get each year here along the Front Range. Hopefully you got some time by the water.
Cooler pool time the next few days...almost early-fall-like weather on tap. Pretty neat look at the cold front from Sunday night responsible for the temp tumble starting Monday. You can see the leading edge of the front toward the bottom arcing line and the brighter colors "on top" of that line was the dust and smoke that followed the front.
The front also brought in just enough low-level moisture to spark off some intense storms along and north I-76 Sunday night too:
The cooldown will be pretty noticeable tomorrow –
We'll just have to monitor exactly how warm those temperatures get Monday, especially across the Denver Metro. There will be enough moisture to tap into, that if we get into the upper 70s and low 80s, we probably see a storm or two pop that could become strong to severe.
We'll have a pretty good shot at widespread storms over the southeast plains of the state. Hail and strong winds would be the main threats.
Beyond that, Tuesday brings another slightly below-average day temperature-wise, before a more significant plume of moisture begins to lift north into Colorado.
This looks to be our first round of monsoon-style thunderstorm activity, with moisture streaming in all the way from southwest Mexico.
We'll likely see numerous storms, especially further east of I-25. Flash flooding, hail and wind would be our main threats to watch out for. We look to stay near or below average Wednesday with more thunderstorm chances.
Beyond that, it will probably take up to next weekend to get temps feeling summer-y again, but hey, you don't hear us complaining.
The rollercoaster looks to continue over the next 7-10 days... We'll keep you posted.
