Colorado weather: Warmth fades soon, update on Halloween weekend storm
Denver's 86-degree Friday shattered the previous record of 83°F set back on Oct 20, 1950. It was also the 2nd-latest recorded 86-degree reading since record-keeping began for the Mile High City! Safe to say it was way hotter than normal. This weekend has featured some slightly cooler temps, back into the 70s for most along the Urban Corridor. We'll try to get back to 80°F in Metro Denver on Monday before a cold front knocks us down into the 60s and 70s Tuesday. That will be the first step int

Denver weather: Another arctic chill to move in following late-week warm-up
As temperatures rebound a bit through Friday, another push of arctic air will move through late this weekend and early next week. The swing in temperatures is shown here, from the lower 40s Friday to below zero early next week. That's cold, but considering record lows for those days are -10° to -25°, it's not that cold. No, this isn't cold like before Christmas, but it is adding to the already cold winter we have had, and month for that matter. Well, I should really say it has been a colder t

Denver weather: Stuck in a cold pattern, nearly daily snow chances
The past couple storm systems were able to shift the momentum, if you will, and bring in lasting cold temperatures in a pattern change to last quite some time and to provide nearly daily snow chances. Speaking of that latest storm, it's going to spread serious impacts across the country through this Wednesday. I talk about that here, but the rest of this blog focuses on the Denver area through the week and beyond. First off, temperatures. Let's just look generally at Denver for the next two we

If you are curious about the country as a whole and the potential travel impact areas, I discuss that here: LOCAL: Here ar

Frigid weather on tap for Denver and parts of Colorado this week
There's a very strong push of colder temperatures that will arrive during the workweek ahead. What to plan on will be below-zero overnight temperatures and highs in the teens. This won't impact our weekend, rather enjoy the 60s for Sunday before change arrives Monday. Watch the colder air spill into the northern U.S. Sunday, then plunge into the central and southern U.S. from Monday through Wednesday. An example as to how cold this air is will be the lows Wednesday morning, which will be in t

Potential first freeze on the way for the Denver metro area
We continue to watch signs of a change next week toward much colder temperatures and the possibility of rain and even some snow, too. Denver's last freezing temperature was on May 12th and the city could hit that freezing point again next week; certainly a first frost for many areas is on the way. And, the last time snow was measured was April 21st; there's a chance for s

A cold night ahead across Colorado, next chance of snow arrives later this week
The coldest temperatures since November 27th are on the way for overnight as lows will be near to and fall below zero for some. Of course, the cold outlook implies the ice and snow won't have much of a chance to melt until Wednesday with a bit of a warm-up to come. So, be careful on those roads as they won't have too much recovery time today. Snowfall totals We won't spend too much time verifying the snowfall forecast that we produced, as it was well in line with observations. Denver official
